Brian D. Farr, DVM, MSTR, DACVPM

Dr. Brian Farr is a veterinarian with extensive working dog and performance medicine experience. He is residency trained in canine sports medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on performance medicine and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. He has completed a Master’s Degree in Translational Research and is an author on seven working dog performance peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
Dr. Farr is also an active duty U.S. Army Veterinary Corps Officer. He has served at the tactical and operational level and spent five years with two special operations commands supporting unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, and direct action missions. He has experience with the selection, training, program management, housing and care, and operational utilization of conventional and special operations military working dogs. Dr. Farr’s recent work has focused on identifying and exploring the most impactful disease and injury threats to military working dogs and the reasons military working dogs leave service.
Dr. Farr is passionate about applying formalized physical fitness methods, operationally focused research, and targeted preventive medicine to enhance and sustain working dog physical performance. Dr. Farr’s passion is born from supporting tip of the spear organizations where service members depended on the abilities of their canine teammates to complete the mission and return home safely. His goal is for working dog handlers, trainers, veterinary personnel, and leadership to have access to comprehensive tools to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, extend service life, and safeguard the social license to operate.
Dr. Farr leverages his human performance background as he works to enhance performance on both ends of the working dog team leash. His personal fitness journey began when he identified gaps in his abilities prior to beginning military service. He has been certified through CrossFit and USA Weighlifting and regards Mountain Tactical Institute and Uphill Athlete as influences. He has led group and individual training classes out of his garage gym for over 10 years, impacting over 500 athletes.
Dr. Farr is married and has four young children who keep him quite busy when not at work. He enjoys running and lifting, training his Dutch Shepherd, and being outside with his family. He can best be reached at K9FarrFitness@gmail.com and found on social media at @K9FarrFitness.
